URW at the ÖBV Elite Tournament in Klagenfurt

URW Badminton was represented by four players at the ÖBV Elite-Ranglistenturnier in Klagenfurt, taking on some of the strongest players from across Austria.
The star of the weekend was Elias Silitonga, who produced URW’s best-ever doubles result at an ÖBV Elite tournament. Elias reached the semifinals in a thrilling three-set encounter and then narrowly missed out on the bronze medal, losing the 3rd/4th-place match in an extremely close three-set battle against Kai Niederhuber, a national-level player. With the deciding game going all the way to 23–21, it was truly a case of so close, yet so far. A 4th-place finish nevertheless marks a fantastic milestone for URW and gives Elias plenty of motivation heading into the next Elite tournament.
RP also competed in singles, despite not being 100% fit due to a niggle picked up during his last successful Advanced Championship. His participation nevertheless added valuable experience against Elite-level opposition.
Ajay & Lal continued in their trademark men’s doubles discipline and finished 12th, their best position at this tournament so far. The result reflects the steady progress of the pair while competing against Austria’s strongest doubles field.
Overall, Klagenfurt was another valuable step forward for URW - bringing experience, tough matches, close finishes and plenty of learning against the very best players in Austria, particularly the young and upcoming talents making their mark on the Elite circuit.
Too close yet not quite there - but plenty of motivation for the next one!
